Republic of Congo ships first Phase 2 LNG cargo from Eni project

The Republic of Congo has exported its first LNG cargo from Phase 2 of the Congo LNG project via the Nguya FLNG unit, Eni said on Friday.

Phase 2 of the LNG development brings the project’s total capacity to 3 million tonnes per year, equal to 4.5 bcm of gas annually, sourced from the Nené and Litchendjili fields offshore the country. The milestone follows the start-up of Phase 1 in December 2023 and supports Eni’s ambition to reach 20 million tonnes per year of LNG globally by 2030.

“Today we reach a very important milestone thanks to the relationship of trust built with the country’s institutions and local communities,” Eni CEO Claudio Descalzi said. He added that the Phase 2 launch came in record time and contributes to both European energy security and local economic growth.

Eni has operated in the Republic of Congo since 1968 and is the leading oil and gas producer in the country, with projected output of 110,000 boepd in 2026. It supplies gas to the national power plant and is active in agri-feedstock and social development initiatives.
